I am incredibly honoured to have received an invitation to be inducted into the International Surfboard Builders’ Hall of Fame, which will take place on Saturday October 14 at the Huntington Beach Pier Plaza, California. The Hall of Fame roster is loaded with surfing’s royalty and legends of the board building community. The inductees span from Duke to Dick Brewer, Pat Curren , Bill Hamilton and our very own Dick Van Straalen. It’s very humbling to be the latest addition to this incredibly esteemed list. This award gives me good reason to head to California and visit all the places which I remember from the early US surfing magazines , movies and Beach Boys songs. I intend to visit the Boardroom Show in Del Mar and am excited to meet my peers from the American board building industry. Following the Californian visit, I most definitely can’t fly past Hawaii without dropping in to see old friends and perhaps go for a paddle out at Waikiki on a big old board at South Queens. Stand by for more information on my itinerary as everything firms up for the trip. I will also have a couple of very special boards with me in California for the ceremony which may be offered for sale.
